Buddy Walk 2010
The Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network and the National Down Syndrome Society will be having its 6th annual Buddy Walk on October 23rd at Lake Cunningham Park in San Jose. This is our biggest event of the year with an expected crowd of over 1,000 walkers who come from around the Bay Area to participate in the 1-mile walk and to enjoy lunch and entertainment while promoting awareness for all people with Down syndrome. The Bay Area Buddy Walk is the largest local event for our families and friends to show their support of people with Down syndrome.
Funds we've raised in past years have:
- Brought speakers to teach us skills for helping kids with DS to learn
- Paid for families to have consultations with various experts
- Sponsored a camp to help us kids learn to ride bike (I rode in the Bike Camp this summer)
- Provided books and materials for families when they have a new baby with DS.
- Donated funds to the Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation
- Donated to the Nation Down Syndrome Society
- Sponsored arts & crafts days and other special events for our local families
